Paragraghs
There are 10 sections, below is its 5.~6. in this article:
5. The content of
your resume stands for the professional skills you possess, but, what about you
possess less of it?!
6. Work interview
Q&A preparation.
What else do you
want to know?!
Sharing Experience
5.The content of your resume stands for the professional skills you possess,
but, what about you possess less of it?!
(1) You still have advantage.
Resume lists the
things the potential employers need,
first of all is the required professional work skills, for all the fresh
graduates, if they would like to apply for the work fields they’ve studied,
that would be their academic achievements, and it’s better they also possess
intern work experience, or, they graduated from those national universities,
otherwise, they’ve already got the professional certificates. These were the
general requirements in job market at the moment
I was going back to my hometown, Taipei
City for job searching; have
you done this kind of survey at that moment of your job searching?! What’s your situation?!
I was graduated
from #FengChia University(#FCU) in #Taichung City, F.C.U is not a national
university and my exams result of the study were not as amazing as expected,
more than that, I didn’t get the CPA license, yet, however, I would like to
apply for an auditor job at big 6 accountant firms of their HQ in Taipei City (now
they are big 3; from 6 to 3, this kind
of change was due to its industry environment changes, in this description….. I
unintentionally reveal my age 😆), I set
this as a goal because I know most companies, while hiring a senior finance and
accounting person or a manager, they defined auditing work experience in big 6
as an required criteria, so I set this goal to create more potential job
options in the future, not only to make my resume more attractive but to make
efforts to my work professional experience for myself, I think I must join
them, and my ideal work firm option is #PricewaterhouseCoopers(#PWC), because
the graphics in their recruitment documents were the most attractive then 👉it was a clear and conspicuous
career progression map😁, however, the
content in my resume was not so attractive for that role, my big 6 job hunting
was not going well, and I didn’t want to get jobs of specific companies by recommendations that I
applied for my own ideal jobs by myself, and because of my personality, I didn’t
want to attend the government jobs entrance exams (I feel I cannot fit in
because government jobs work promotion mechanism is by employees’ pass some
kind of exams rather than assessing by work performance), and, after I failed
in job searching for some times, I realized some things:
- In fact, I didn’t
know why I failed; the companies may not respond to me if I asked the reason.
- I’ve been invited
to the interview, it meant, not all the companies accept fresh graduates from
[national universities] only.
- There were lots of
employees working for big 6, it is impossible all of the junior auditors of
fresh graduates were those who got the best study result in school.
- Some companies
hope could hire locals in order to reduce
the possibility of homesickness of the new-hired or the issues of living environment adaption. This turned to be my
advantage unexpectedly.
- My English ability
and my study activity and experience in English Speaking Society in school.
- 「In your attached documents, we foresee you are the kind of person we are
seeking for, we want to have lively finance and accounting staffs.」.(If you are interested
in what I “attached” in my resume, please click to view [About Me] mentioning extra curricula I
attended in school.)
Conclusion:
- I know my
advantage by how others see me. I revised my resume to highlight my advantages
every time I completed a work interview.
- I used my above
advantage in answering this question: there
are lots of job seekers; please let us know your idea why we need to hire you?
- I cannot control
all the interview result, so, I don’t think about what may happen after I
completed the interview.
- Believe in miracle, try all kinds of
job application channels, keep applying, and finally, I was hired by #PWC
Taipei, please see below (2).
(2) Do not give up any kind of possible
job search channel.
- Y.D.A and miracle
Campus recruiting started early
before our graduation, and I attended several times and I also registered my
profile in current most notable job bank, 104.com, this website was built at
the year I graduated( now you know my age! 😄),
they also provided care service via calling to me and asking whether I need to
continue posting my resume or not, how sweet it was then. At the year I
graduated, I formally joined PWC by my job application for their work vacancy
listed in Y.D.A(Department of Youth
Development Administration), finally I knew it was by Japanese Team of
Business Registration Department of PWC rather than Auditing, I don’t’ know
Japanese (though Japanese was my optional course when studying in the
university, I forgot English when studying it, I felt terrible about this
situation, I gave up to avoid I forget the way to speak neither of these 2
language someday), this meant, the Japanese team has great tolerance that they
accepted my not familiar with the major work objectives; I felt happy being
invited for this interview by PWC, I was happily smiling in the beginning to
the end, there were two female hiring managers, they told me I was hired in the
interview: I see you keep smiling, it seems you are easy going, we hope could
invite you to join us…..What a miracle it is; I didn’t expect it go so
smoothly, I feel very much grateful.
- Once you made up
your mind, you will meet benefactors
People say, [the
most difficult thing at work is dealing with people], but I don’t think so.
People working for
Business Registration Department need to be familiar with related regulations,
all the managers and peers were willing to share and teach me how to do the
work right, they also taught me Japanese language, however, embarrassingly, I
was born to resist anything needs me to [recite], I cannot fit it, and I didn’t
want to resign because of this, I hope I was allowed to switch to Auditing, I
didn’t know how to do it and I didn’t know what the “application” means,
either; someday, there was an elegant lady in the elevator, she told me: Emily,
if you want to switch department, you only need to get the approval by boss in
both side (in PWC, boss means in charge partner of the firm)(she knew my name,
what a weird thing!), but I didn’t know who the boss were. One day I found
there was a mail box on wall [Employees Suggestions], I wrote and said things
like this:[Every year, there were lots of new-hired junior auditors resigned
because of too much overtime work, their work period was short, however, people
like me who are committed to work at any occasion are not allowed to work in
Auditing, I don’t understand. If that is what it is, all I can do is to try
those work opportunity in Ernst & Yang downstairs (#EY)]. I expressed it
sincerely. I was saying this sincerely and honestly. And, very soon, I was
interviewed by 3 bosses, they were the in charge partners of the firm,
responsible for HR, Internal Control business and Business Registration service
respectively, and the Business Registration Head was also the Vice CEO then.
After that interview procedure, my transferring work go smoothly and I joined
the newly created internal control department, at the same time, my manager
hired another junior auditor, a man, we were the first two junior auditors in this
newly established department of PWC, dealing with internal control assessment
for clients’ IPO needs, people called us a perfect match😊 because both of our family name is Huang and we are tall 😊. I did lots of learning in this team,
there was also work adjustment, and in general, all I encountered in this firm
fulfilled my dream, it’s auditing, I feel grateful to all the managers and
bosses, I can tell from those 3 bosses’
reaction in that interview that I didn’t answer professionally, I feel
lucky I was also accepted and attended the training program, it was a miracle
to me, everyone I met there were my benefactors. I also thank myself, just like
a senior team member told me, she felt I was very courageous then, she has
never met a new-hired talking to 3 big bosses at the same time until she met
me. And, because of her telling me this, I was aware of the difference between
my work environment situation and my personality. I appreciated all the things
the benefactors giving to me; thank PWC, Y.D.A and everyone.
Finally, there is
something I would like to share, it’s just like it happened yesterday, it was
in our Japanese team in the Business Registration department, and there were 3
Japanese expats.:
#1.Mrs. Kubo:in the new-hire tour in the office, my colleague introduced her to me that Mrs. Kubo’s husband is French. I don’t remember she speaks Chinese or not 😌, however, what I don’t understand is why my colleague introduced peer’s husband to a new-hired. 😑😄😄😄
#2.Koike San,
Japanese in charge business partner:he was just learning Chinese by himself, learning from books! When I went to a
client’s office with him in a taxi, he told me, [in Japan, the certified
professional accountant’s rate of acceptance in its exam is 8% ], he spoke this
all in Chinese! How amazing he is! I can’t forget this! 😀
#3. Minagawa San,
a gentleman, also a senior Japanese in charge business partner of the firm, I’m
not sure about his name in Chinese: when I was doing work department change, I
wrote a good-bye letter in English to him because he was also leaving and going
back to Japan; I said, I hope myself speak good Japanese next time we meet.
Now, it has been many years: let’s say English or Chinese, please! 😅
6.Work Interview Q&A Preparation.
(1)Introduce yourself:I suggest you
prepare in this way=> [the way to quickly let all the interviewers know you
are the perfect match].
- Final sentence:due to OOO
reasons, I believe I can be competent
and happy in this wor.(or similar)
- I would like to
also suggest you to read the job description for N times + think about your
personal related experience, and to combine both of them to design and develop
a brief self –introduction and the last sentence is also the one mentioned above. If you do it in this way, it
supports you and the company to know your work capability for the role you
applied for, and if the hiring side wants to know more about something not
directly related to work but to your personal life and the way you growing up,
they will ask the detail and you just answer accordingly; and, it is surely you
can reject questions involved too much
about your privacy.
All the above is
because work interview is not going for a chat, so I suggest you to do things
to make the companies know you are a qualified person more earlier; although,
some companies would say in an interview:[Please come for a chat], it means [let’s understand each other are a fit
or not], otherwise, who will utilize their work hour to talk to a stranger
though also a job seeker? Time is money. Do you think everyone needs to value
others and their own time?! Due to this issue, it is also suggested you choose
the company culture carefully.
(2)Share an actual case is the best answer:all the interviewees need to prepare to answer question in professional
work field, or being prepared to do some test, and, there are things other than
this, I want to suggest the interviewers and the interviewees to ask this
question: ”Please share an case to
explain” or ”For example?!”. For
the companies, this allows the hiring managers to know job seekers’ logical
thinking, and their explanation is true or false. For the job seekers, this
gives the opportunity to you to build a good speaking and make all the things
spoken in order. Some people usually speak fluently but get nervous and can’t
express themselves with confidence when they are in an interview, and this is
true.
For job seekers, it is the most persuasive to explain by a real case. What’s your idea?!
(1)These are my answers, for your reference:
What
if they ask1: You’re not so professional
(didn’t get good grade), why did you apply for this job?!
My
idea: Interviewing
spends time, were it not for the recruiting team’s misunderstanding, the
companies will not invite any not qualified person to go for an work interview.
And, people can do nothing about the grade they’ve got at school, if that was
not good and there is company inviting you for a work interview, it means, they
found something in you have the potential to match their need. Please be
prepared to express your work strength and the reason you applied for those
jobs and interact actively and positively.
Please gather the
companies’ information that has already released in internet at least, this is
to respect the interviewer companies and also respect yourself, it means you’re
well prepared and do it with cautiously, and what you say is the things you did
with your own attitude.
Answer:First of all, I
would like to thank you for giving me this interview opportunity. This means,
in my resume, my work capability is seen and has been considered to match the
company need. Thank you for affirmation again.
I’m not applying for lots of jobs, I reviewed all the detail in the job
description and the company profile before I apply for it, I apply for those
attract my work interest. I’m interested in working for this company because OOO(in
news you’ve read and the company profile, what are the things attracting you to
be their employee); I believe my work perseverance and adaptability (advantage)
are able to support my weakness in professional work field, such as…(explain
your idea); I would like to thank you for inviting me for this interview, I
trust the company would like to hire and train people like me. I’m very happy
about my application for this job, I cherish I got this opportunity today.
Thank you!
What
if they ask2: There are so many
candidates like you, and, why do we need to hire you?!
My idea:Your answer is
surely NOT [It’s up to you!] or [How would I know?!] 😄!
Unless it’s you and your classmates attending the interview together, otherwise,
you won’t know what kind of other candidates have attended this competition, so
please do not think the way they are talking about [so many candidates like you]
to answer; since you’ve already prepared for the question above this one, thus,
you can consider to answer base on your own personal advantage and strength
regarding those can support you to achieve your work goal in the future.
Besides, if you are recommended to the company you are going to interview,
please beware of what you are saying, your work skill or specific personality
is your work strength that people would like to recommend you rather than the
relationship you’ve built with them! There were interviewees being asked about
similar question like this, they felt shocked, they thought they surely will
get hired because they were recommended, so they didn’t prepare for this kind
of question.
Answer:In my observation,
to compare with other people studying in Accounting Department, my personality
and the way I handle thing is to initiate
related communication, I feel less worry about talking to strangers,
this can increase interdepartmental
communication, to understand more about business activities, so this may help
my accounting work to book the transactions more correctly. Furthermore,
work integrity is very
important, but people know this attitude only when they have worked together
for some time, and, I’ve invited OOO to recommend me for this job, it’s my
honor; OOO values much about work integrity and work ethic, she is willing to
accept my invitation (or, you can explain the years you’ve known each other), I
hope this can explain I’m a trustworthy person that people can rely on me.
Please ask me more question if this explanation is not enough to answer your
question. Thank you.
What if they ask 3:The
equation/program you’re just explaining is wrong xxx, it should be…
My idea:This was asked in a software
engineer interview about their professional work capability, the interviewer directly
said the candidate’s idea is wrong. Please be reminded that in some aspects,
this is a test of your attitude about how you’re dealing with this situation, your
reaction, regardless the right or wrong about your answer. Even that is the
interviewer or the company’s attitude issue, were it not for your issue, there
is no negative issue about you, because, people have no opportunity to say you
react badly in an interview, this rule cannot be crossed over. What’s your idea
about this?!
Some people advise
job seekers to keep a low profile, some feel people always need to save face at
least; my suggestion is: in your career hereafter, you [will] or [will not]
meet these interviewers again, the possibility is 50%:50%, no one can confirm
this, and, what the impression you would like to leave in this interview,
please decide. However, in my point of view, there is no high or low position between
candidates and interviewers/the company, both need to respect each other, your attitude shows who you are and the
education you’ve learned. For your reference.
Answer1:(You are sure you
are wrong, or, you are not sure)I’m sorry that I didn’t consider xxx that you
just mentioned. I’ll improve it.
Answer2:(Your answer is
right, then please explain with confidence, and share an example if possible)For
your mention about xxx, what I meant is that OOO, based on OOO, so it will be OOO;
about xxx you are saying, it will
lead to….
