First of all, I
would like to thank my friend, #Daniel Chang (Director at Delta Electronics,
2022/4/10) here in Linkedin, he shared an article, one of the topic is:a story of【When a person's
personal conduct /behavior follows the ethic, his work instruction is performed
and need no work order from him. If his personal conduct is against the ethic,
his work instruction will not be followed.】, this reminds me of another post
of mine【Company A:Appropriate behavior is more important than great performance】(please click here),
I mentioned I would like to share another story while working for Company B,
its work conduct seems quite different from A, and I was that person who didn’t
follow my manager’s work instruction. 😆
At work, I choose to comply for work ethic when the work instruction tends
to disobey it, so I don’t conduct those work instruction; what about you?
【When a person's personal conduct /behavior follows the ethic, his work
instruction is performed and need no work order from him. If his personal
conduct is against the ethic, his work instruction will not be followed.】, however, 【How a person to
rectify others if his behavior is not of the righteous?】those were things I hope could know the answers from superiors of Company
B, I believe they WILL NOT
report to the Board about things I have questioned them, nor to educate their
children how they did it; I send them blessing and hope they will be awaken to
do the right things and to fight for work ethic. ( 💪💪💪)

Purposes of Sharing Stories

No matter how difficult
it is, we shouldn’t work against things of the righteous;
we need to follow our conscience and harm no one at least, then we won’t have sleepless nights due to
worries and fears, we have no regret before leaving this lifetime( note 1).

Elder relative’s story
There was a female elder relative, born in age 1910, she didn’t treat her
daughter –in-law well, and always criticized things she did, it was majorly
because this daughter-in-law was her son’s girlfriend rather than her ideal,
selected wealthy one; however, this daughter-in-law is a person who treats her
mother-in-law very filially in the eyes of the big family;all people will become older and older, and one day, this mother-in-law
got sickness and cannot get up from bed, incapable of doing things, and in low
spirit due to long illness, however, this daughter-in-law was still filial
piety, carrying this mother-in-law to get up to take a bath, feeding food,
cleaning up excrement, etc...the mother-in-law apologized to this
daughter-in-law unexpectedly one day, blaming herself not treating her well,
maybe, this was the repenting right before leaving this lifetime of the elder.
This daughter-in-law cried and hope this mother-in-law careless of what she did
in the past and just focusing on her own health and get recovery as soon as
possible, but, not long after this, the elder passed away.

To employees under
the management of supervisors:
We need to respect people
who are responsible for managing us;because they take the responsibility of our work results, good and bad. We need to follow their
work instructions, however, we also need to provide professional work value -
If the work
instruction work against work ethic,
or, it is illegal, and your manager tends to not signing for anything for
responsibility taking but hope you to do it, you have the right to say「No」for this.
Because you’re a professionally trained adult,
you have the rights to choose what to do;anything you’ve done will follow you even you’ve changed work environment
or retired. Please be cautious.

To managers:If a person’s
personal conduct is against the ethic, his work instruction will not be
followed.
How a person to rectify others if his behavior is not of the righteous?

(1) To the managers of the parent and
subsidiary companies of the group and members of the board of directors:
4-1.To ensure CFOs of parent company and
subsidiaries’ work independence, and to avoid CFO manipulating finance number due
to work pressure given from their managers( intentionally create fake number to reach
specific purpose), it is more appropriate the CFOs directly report to the BOD,
or, doing additional works/things to ensure finance work independently.
4-2. The possibility is not 0% that the appointed external accountants
or accounting firms’ opinion will be influenced by their friendship with the
managers of the companies under auditing.
4-3.4-1 is more important than 4-2.
(2) To internal auditors:
Do you agree
auditing work scope needs to include this kind of things or it will bring value
to improve it? And, how you will detect to know this situation exists? What
will be the possible advice/suggestions?

How much is your

When your work
environment or specific managers tell you, you need to 【give up your work ethic】 in order to 【keep your job/salary】, what will you do?

In my job changing,
coincidentally, 90% of the companies I worked for, they are well-known in in
the industry in Taiwan or globally, in Top 3, Company B is one of this kind of
company. It was transforming to be a subsidiary of the brand owner from a J.V
while I just joined it;my direct reporting
line became dual, to Asia CFO and Country GM, from one, directly only to
Country GM, and I was the Country Finance Head then, however, my finance work
didn’t become much more independent transparently and neutral in this dual
reporting line situation, just like above 4.1, this is my conclusion. I didn’t
stay at B long, please see below 【Main reasons for leaving】 and 【Secondary reasons for leaving】.
After I left, my
colleague passed on an internal announcement of B, which hurt my reputation; I
wanted to raise a lawsuit for this, but a lawyer friend reminded me of something,
and I would like to share it for your reference. When many career or legal
experts on the internet advocate labor rights or employees’ reputations are
damaged, how labors can defend their rights, that is, go to court. However,
perhaps the following opinions of my friends can provide you with different ideas,
I hope below idea is helpful to you, however, you are the decision maker of
your life and career, it’s up to you to accept or not, and I hope you won’t
encounter things that may damage your rights:
Lawyer friend said,
「All you did is right, and you will win in the lawsuit, however, please
firstly make sure what you want in this legal case?-> To cancel the announcement? Money? And how much is enough??
And, if the company
doesn’t want to pay money but invite you back to work, would you like to accept
this reconciliation?
The most important is your career plan.
More than that, we
need to consider time and monetary cost in this legal progress,
The Company B will
pay the cost for B itself or the managers, but, who will pay for you?
Do they deservce
your money and time?
And, how much you
can spend, waiting time and money?
If those illegal things didn’t
happen in B, do you like to work for B
?
Please have an
in-depth thinking and let me know your conclusion before our further
discussion.」
Finally, I didn’t
raise the lawsuit:if there is no work ethic issue in B
and I can choose again, I won’t work for B.
This work experience
is a typical case for this ->internal management quality of a big brand
company may not meet the ideal need
of job seekers, it will be known only by candidates’ joining this
company and experiencing it to know their expectation will be fulfilled or not.
There is no right or wrong, only based on person work preference.
My motive of joining B was to know and learn advanced management knowledge, furthermore, there is opportunities of exchanging opinions with people from cultures and countries, however, in fact, for example:finance independency, work systemizing, accounting management, marketing and distribution work concept and fundamental etiquette in work interaction were not enough in Group B, but they did it not intentionally, I met lots of friendly persons, they tried vvvvvvvvvvvvvery hard to learn new things, and, it was a pity, it was not the right timing for me to wait or apply for work transfer to Group HQ to push work improvement. I accepted I have no work destiny with B. 😌
【If a person’s personal conduct is against the ethic, his work instruction

righteous? 】 This is the thing I
hope could tell those managers, however, I didn’t know many higher level
persons were involved, I didn’t say it.
It seems like this:
in a school, you are the student, in the exam, teacher of this class wanted to
manage all your exam result and said: 「Please cheat when you are doing exams, to ensure all you exams result
achieve specific number to uplift the average performance, we did this for more than 20 years and it is safe to do it this way, nothing happened even after the
educational supervisor coming to review us.」;you told them, your family education and fundamental school learning have
taught you not to cheat or not to do things against conscience and ethic, you’ve
decided not to cheat. However, the principal said「Do not cheat, cheating is wrong, but, Principal
wouldn’t like to take the responsibility of decreasing average exam performance
after removing people who cheated.」
In this situation,
what you will do(1)transfer to another school directly, (2)educate being
righteous to teaching staffs, or(3)report to the educational bureau,
(4)fighting for right or wrong in this school?
I’ll choose(1),
because, all the teachers have already shown they knowingly made the mistake, and don’t want to take the responsibility of result from their
cheating, they are not qualified to be my teachers, their sense of morality is lower than expectation.
At that moment, I’ve
decided to focus on doing my own work
duty, and fulfilling work responsibility for shareholders, education and
professionalism, doing things I won’t regret and won’t feel ashamed later.
Main reasons for leaving:Not following the work instruction which against work ethic(Note 2).
Reason for leaving B is the most frequently asked question in interviewing a new work opportunity, after completing this article, I may respond and ask them to view this post, or, reply 👉 “ Please contact Zilu”, or, please transfer to「Confucius」(Note 2), confucius@whatsyouridea1996.blogspot.com (Note 3)😨😁

【Work instruction: to enter fake
digits into accounts】
Reason:If not doing it, funding
of this company will flow back to shareholders’ pockets.
I raised some issues
and questions for this but no reply from Country GM, Ms. C, or, she avoided to
talk to me then, I didn’t follow this work instruction accordingly, because:
-It is possible and
reasonable to pay dividend to shareholders as the investment return once the
company earns money, otherwise, where should the company funding go?
-This amount is
significant, but no real business activities nor appropriate accounting principle
to support its existence, it decreases to EPS and is harmful to shareholders’
equity.
-If it is feasible
to enter instructed numbers into account for years, and why there is no Country
Head or Country Finance Head approval in the accounting documents? And the
Country Head doesn’t want to sign is also an issue.
C was promoted from
CFO of B, her work background was an auditor at QRST which is a global famous
accountant firm, and QRST has been the in charge auditing firm for B for years,
I was very curious about the auditing opinion by QRST for B’s financial
statement always「present fairly」, however, there was always big gap between finance statement and tax
statement prepared based on the same accounting record and no one has questioned
this. QRST stated that, B’s financial statement has accrued numbers for
conservative expression purpose, there is no misleading financial information
and no risk from this; I consulted to my friends who also work for sizable and
globally famous accountant firms, firm partners, they answered me:Run!Do not stay long!! 😆😆😆
I was an Internal
Auditor and Auditing Manager before, however, to look back, I’ve never planned
to audit this issue in the past; this really expands the control mindset in my
mind.
【Requesting for governmental unified invoice(GUI) in fake record from
suppliers】
In order to making
me feel no concern to enter fake data into accounts, C assigned IT manager to
request for GUI in fake numbers from suppliers for me;I didn’t accept it after confirming with IT that we won’t purchase
anything from these suppliers at that
moment or in a foreseeable future, this will cause corporate tax
problems and I told IT to give them back to suppliers as soon as possible.
【Manager is not responsible for her work instruction】
In the procedures of
B shares selling, C wanted me to maximize the profitability
numbers in our finance statement ; all work activities and related numbers are
confirmed and closed, if we cannot adjust the number unless…😎

Due to historical error, only I can
do was to modify the wrong number into correct one and this work direction just
matched what C wanted. However, coincidentally and it was a pity that I heard C
told someone in a call discussing issues caused from finance number changed :「I( C ) didn’t interfere anything, I fully authorized finance department
can do and communicate anything in their profession.」In fact, C avoided me to know the
contact information of Members of the Board. Fortunately, no one challenged me
after a short email conversation for that issue:I am ensuring the finance numbers is appropriately delivered in my work period.
【Don’t steal money from the company;or, someone needs to leave, but, it cannot cause sales decrease?】
This standard is
quite different from Company A.
Fake numbers issue
has raised attention from Managers at Asia Regional Office; they’ve monitored B’s
finance work performance for years but saying they had no idea about this,
though, an work order was given about
not to do this again, otherwise, it will be taken as stealing money from the
company. This was discussed again and again every month because C was
not giving it up to do that, and finally the Regional Office announced
informally:Due to work disagreement between Country Head and Finance Head, one of you
need to leave your job, however, sales performance is not allowed to go
downward due to your resignation. This meant I only
can choose to accept fake numbers or resign from this job because I was not
responsible for sales.
In between 【finance integrity】 and 【sales numbers】,【finance integrity】 was sacrificed. If
the company needs finance work independently, however, at the same time, the
manager of Finance Head is someone responsible for Sales work performance, it
only can rely on this higher level person’s self-discipline to control him/her
self not to give a work command to
manipulate the numbers in financial statements per their personal preference;this was quite different from the rule of a company I worked for. It was
also a GM threatened the finance manager to misrepresent the finance statement,
but, finally, the Chairman knew that and this GM was fired due to his behavior
was considered as intentionally cheating to the Board and Shareholders.
Regarding work ethic or work integrity of members of executive management team,
I’ve encountered 2 kinds of work cultures. Which one is similar to yours?
「Resist work command」surely will cause its consequence, such as frequently reprimanded, warned
not to report overstepping levels, and right to work was threatened etc., all I
can do was to explain I didn’t anything I was blamed for and I also hope to
know what was the things refer to overstepping levels( because I didn’t), I
guessed that was because the manager got a nightmare/bad dream about something
related to this?! If it was not the case, what caused I needed to be reprimanded
for, and I needed to invest most of my work hours in dealing with these kind of
“ discussions”, furthermore, I and my team members also needed to prepare
financial numbers for requestors from various of requestors in this group( it
was a pity none was related to sales increase or management improvement), that resulted
in I and my team members overtime work until 4 o’clock in the morning.
Secondary reasons for leaving:view points and
standards of dealing with people are different from supervisors.
【Behavior appropriateness after drinking....what do you think?】
Back to【Company A:Appropriate behavior
is more important than great performance】(please click here),
male superior was, a male supervisor was accused of harassing a female employee, it was in a break of
out-of-office team activity, the male supervisor explained his behavior was
caused from having too much alcohol, however, he was punished severely by the
management authority finally. And, while working for another firm, there was an
internal training related to salespersons’ socializing activities and drinking
issues in it, the firm emphasized that:「If you cannot control your own behavior after drinking, don’t drink;if you misbehave after drinking, the firm will impose more severe
punishment for that.」etc.
What happened in B is that at the main table in the
company banquet, a female manager sat on the lap of a higher-level male manager
and talked about things. They were not a couple, and one of them was married.
Although other supervisors told everyone that it was because the female manager
was drunk, however, none of them dealt with it properly as soon as possible;
all the colleagues seemed accustomed to this situation, and only I felt it
inappropriate. When the banquet was over, I was shocked that the female manager
could clearly call out our names asking us to help clean up the place. . . .
Sober up quickly! Maybe...someone made her drink the sober-up liquid. ( Or
what?! 😨 )
What is your or your
company’s idea about this?
Is it 👉 it depends on personal feeling, it is activities outside of office anyway?
【Please layoff
Accountant Supervisor S, because the cost is much lower than her pension】
I didn’t do it, and
hope GM C gave me more time to train S;S told me S’s first finance manager in B was C, and also shared with me
management situation of all former finance managers….S worked for B for around
20 years, I thought
S’s work performance
was not excellent but not so worse that needs to be laid off;laying off is a kind of negative comment on staff’s work capability, but
it needs to be defined after investing enough time to train them and give time
to improve, it is not fair to S to compare severance pay with pension, and it
was not my first priority at work in B. I euphemistically told S we need to
make more efforts to work accordingly.
Again, my management point of view
was not aligned with my manager again. What will you do in this situation?
【Management if slow -moving goods:donate to charities organizations】
I understand it is
not a right or wrong question, it depends on kind of situation and people.
However, I
personally feel sad. Because of the products nature, if they were held in stock
too long, they’ll be easily worn out when used and possibly hurt physical
health, and it may cause the charity entities feel they can「only」use products which
are not new in the market. Is it better to hold an auction for these goods?
I understand B has
no bad intention on this, and C is also the Director of BOD of an charity
organization, however, this work procedure has been doing for a long time, so I
didn’t formally raise any other idea for it, and, after above mentioned things,
we all know C will not be happy if I propose work idea formally or informally,
she will say:「you want to change
again.」. Besides work
concept differed, this work environment discourage employees to raise new work
idea, this is not my idea work environment, either.
【What other information is different from I’ve heard before?】
C happily shared
with us that she has helped us to earn special fund support from the Board for
employees’ benefit, and hope all of us not to mention staff travel or other
things that may spend the company’s money in front of the Chairman, because our Chairman doesn’t like
employees to spend money in her invested company.
In year-end party,
our Chairman felt that the Employees Welfare Committee’s money for lucky draw
was poorly not much, she firstly donated a big money in this drawing for us in
this party. Our Chairman’s attitude toward employees is quite different from
those C has said. I always felt there was information conflict in B, and this
was one of the main reasons of leaving of mine.
The sharing is finished here. I use the knowledge
of Analects of Confucius and past work experience to express opinions on
supervisors and companies with different viewpoints. If you were there, what

People asked me whether I dislike C;it is not easy to answer this question.
In the point of view
of reality:C is a person who
was promoted to GM work position from Finance Head role by BOD, there must be
something worth learning and admiring in C but I don’t have the opportunity to
know. Regarding fake numbers related things, If C only wanted to reserve money
for operation use in the upcoming years, it only needs to prepare a「Cash Utilization Plan」 and request for BOD
approval, so there is no need of fake numbers things. However, because C was always
unwillingly to talk about her purpose of the numbers thing, no one knows what
the truth was.
I prefer discussing
my own reaction in these issues:
While encountering threatening
to lose a job if not to do something at work, I still choose to do something I
think it is right for it. It is not because I have a wealthy family, in fact, I
also need salary income to support my daily life. It is the thing supporting me
to do the right things:I don’t accept threatening,
I choose the right path, I thank A and other former employers for their
guidance.
What about you?
There is something
terrible:in an occasion,
there was a religious person suggesting me to chant Buddha sutra to remove
negative energy in me, it was possible someone wanted to push me to do 「something I wouldn’t like to do」 at work by casting spell on me...I can’t prove it was real or not, but I was shocked because scene of being
reprimanded in B just came to mind immediately. I went quickly to the famous
temple, Hsing Tian Kong( in Traditional Chinese)( in Japanese)(in English), prayed for gaining
peace and safety, and learned the Golden
Light Deity Spell( it’s 金光神咒 in Chinese) and chanted it many
times, I hope it helps me to remove the invisible negative energy. People in
service in this temple told me there is no English or other language’s version
of this spell, they are not sure whether it will also work if people chant in language
which is not Mandarin Chinese or Taiwanese Minnan language; if you want to
learn, please consider to watch this video I found in Youtube channel , https://youtu.be/gUW6nk0r4ZU , to learn its pronunciation.
The chanting is repeating in this video, and the 1st time started
from time stamp 0:00 to 0:37, the 2nd started from 0:37 to 1:14 …, the last is 3:45 to 4:22etc.,
for your reference.
My advice: there is
lots of spell spreading in the internet, however, if you want to learn and
chant it but you have not obtained any formal training or studying yet, before
your chanting , please consult to counselors of officially registered temples,
religious related departments in schools, entities or organization. This is
not a guarantee or approval for the content or effect of the spell or mantra,
but, it is a way to ask for help from a proper resource to ensure information
on internet is true or false, harmful or not when we cannot distinguish the
authenticity of the knowledge spreading on the Internet, “rather than” doing
what is said without any verification.
