Question:Work interest and expertise is Auditing, but dont like to
be disliked . What to do?
Hi, Emily, I saw your profile and shared articles
via Linkedin. I would like to consult to you some questions and hope you could
also post notice in Linkedin once you complete the response in your blog:My work background
is also an auditor at a well-known sizable accountant firm, and I would like to
change my job to be an internal auditor in a company. My work interest and
strength is auditing, however, in my clients’ work environment, I found
auditing is a department most colleagues dislike them, I can understand that no
one like to be audited, but I don’t want to be disliked by others after my job
changes; and, more than a half of my listed companies clients, they built up
auditing departments only for legal compliance purpose, they are companies with
billions of capital but their head of
audit work role is only manager work level and reporting to their CFO
rather than to the Board of Directors directly, their audit work function is
fake. Please let me know how can I find a job of a company which really values
auditing? When you were an auditor, did you feel your peers dislike you or your
job? How did you react to that situation?
How can auditors obtain better
work promotion or work titles?! Thank you.
Answers and Advice
1. 「Auditing is a
department other colleagues dislike them」, 「I don’t want to be disliked」. What to do?:
(1)
「I don’t want to be disliked」= It’s you to allow others’
behavior affects your mood at work, so, there is concern about improper authorizing by you to others to
manipulate your mind 😬.
As the saying goes, people who dislike you will not change their attitude
toward you into liking you even you send them money. ( In this situation, it’s
better to donate these money to charities or sponsorthis website than giving them 😁 );people who like
you sincerely will always support you in spiritual aspect at least even if you
are in bad status. It is advised to love
yourself more, then, you will feel less impact from others attitude toward
you 💓💓💓。
(2)
「Auditing is a department other colleagues dislike them」, there may be
insufficient evidence to support this point of view is true:May I know how many clients you are handling? Is this number of clients
enough to verify all listed companies’ work preference and attitude toward
internal auditing is the same as mentioned? Advice for this issue is the same
as above (1). People cannot control
other adults’ preference but to manage and adjust their own mind to reinforce
their courage to reduce negative attitude impact from others.

2. The Audit Head is Manager level
only, and reporting to CFO rather than to the B.O.D, audit work
function is fake:
(1)
It needs evidence to support 「audit work function is fake」 or not. Otherwise, we can only
say its audit reporting line doesn’t match the requirement by law.
(2)
Do you think an internal audit work
function is surely real because they directly report to the B.O.D? 😄😄😄 I’m not sure.

How to find a
company that values auditing works and how to obtain higher audit work title
and promotion opportunity:
How would you define a company that values auditing
or not?
Please be advised to list all your idea and discuss with your work
interviewers to know their opinion and take it into job selecting
consideration. For example, in your ideal work environment, how should auditing
and its reporting tasks be performed?! Share your idea and ask for feedback and
know your idea would be accepted by employers or not。
If you are searching for an Auditing Specialist job rather than a managerial role, please be
advised to ask below questions per your concern:
(1)
Work title: I hope could work for a company for my long term
career development, work being recognized and having the opportunity to be
promoted to Chief Auditing Officer
position. May I know how this company’s plan for this current Audit
Specialist role now and in the future?! How its work performance will be assessed
and its work promotion opportunity. Thank you.
(2)
Value much on
Auditing:
i.If this company’s audit department belongs to XXX rather than reporting
to the B.O.D, how it can achieve work neutrally and independently? What if this
XXX giving Auditing work instruction about not to report some audit findings in
audit report? In this situation, what kind of actions would the company expect
from Auditing to take and deal with it?! Is there any related work procedures
currently?

How would this
company describe itself a company values and supports Auditing works?

Did your
colleagues dislike you or your job when you were the auditor of your company? How did you react in this situation?!
This happened. They
were BU General Managers;I was doing my audit result presentation, however,
before I started, these General Managers had already read my written
suggestions and said all my audit advice was 「not required to our work environment」.
My manager, the
Managing Director, did an immediate 「Work Instruction」 to these General
Managers at that moment. He meant:
「Please be
understood that Emily is just doing her job now;is there anyone who doesn’t understand this current situation?! 」
「Who can show Emily
how to do Auditing works properly?! Or, we need to listen to her first?」
This meeting went
very well after that.
I didn’t do any
response to those General Managers, it was because, I can feel, people in that
work environment have less internal control fundamental understanding, less
than I imagined at that moment, and this was the most difficult thing to solve.
For example, there was a BU having no written approval work record for significant
amount transaction, my mind focusing on this issue and thinking how to deal
with it with people in this environment;I didn’t pay much attention to those things other than that.
I need to mention another situation. There were other BU General
Managers in this company, or, in another work environment I worked for, they
respect Auditing very much. Similar characteristics of these people are:high sense of honor, hope could do things to prevent from control
weakness happening, they invited auditing department to join their work
improvement and give advice and hope could know the 「root cause 」 of the advice. I also learnt a lot from them.
In our discussion, we sometimes enhanced our work quality unexpectedly. That
work experience is valuable; I thank them giving me that work experience and
environment and also feel it interesting. There was a practice:
Colleague W of
Maintenance department talking about a specific product’s maintenance rate
after 3-month use by consumers is 90%.
ü I hope could know how he calculated and found 3 and 90%?
ü W said it was due to his work experience and having difficulties to
explain.
ü I asked again:If our CEO takes this explanation and reports to the Board of Directors, then our CEO may need to bring W to attend the BOD to explain his assessment. Because only W knows how 3 and 90% came from. 😆😆😆
After that, we discussed 「how and
why」 W feeling that way, and defined 「Sales Order」 and 「Clients’
Maintenance Request」 as the major 2 sheets among all documents in
their department to calculate and verify 3 and 90% and finally revised the
number as 2 and 75% accordingly…
