I graduated from
EMBA of #NCKU (National Cheng Kung University)；my thesis topic
was smartphone purchase intention related:

First of all, I would
like to thank my parents and family members for their support and spiritual
companionship in all my study process, they also helped me to ask for help from
people getting up early doing exercise in the park and help from their
colleagues to fill up my thesis questionnaire, I also thank my former superiors
and my friends for their recommendation letters of my entrance admission, I
appreciate those team seniors working together with me in classes( we called
each other “senior” to show respect to each other ) and professors, office
assistants’ supports and peers, relatives and strangers who joined my opinion
survey for thesis development; besides, special thanks to my
thesis advisor professor and seniors who helped me in thesis preparation works,
it was the last year of my study program, the rock bottom in my life👉 my father’s
last phase of his life, seniors and I are from Taipei or Taichung, our seniors
helped me to do thesis upload work affairs in our school in Tainan, they were
also responsible for coordinating our thesis defense meetings, I thank them for
all they have done for me that I was able to obtain the master degree and
diploma accordingly.

marketing and anything about the ways to assist the company to make money, and
to improve the communication efficiency with colleagues, suppliers and
customers of all kinds of professional background and to remove any kinds of communication

can know from the subject of my thesis that I got the knowledge I want; though,
my related work professional and experience shows I’m not a marketing expert,
however, this learning experience has helped me achieve my goal of self –uplifting
and transformation.

major factors to increase purchase intention?!

Goal and outcome that are hard to see: Inner thoughts- multi- faceted thinking; external- people I communicate with will get multi- faceted suggestions from me, thus, there is not only finance, accounting or internal control related 👈=enhance self -worth, please refer to e.g.5. 😊
E.g.2.Things I want: continuously
thinking about how I can utilize those I learned for the first time and hard to
remember toward my work Such as: Quality, Strategy, Research Method, Human
Resources, IT, Topics and Legal…etc.
E.g.3. Beyond expectation: Our lectures included a Judge,
a Chairman of a state-owned enterprise, and professors who are well experienced
academically and practically + shared their life experience, provided on-site
Q&A, I felt lucky and blessed as a student then.
E.g.4.Interesting unexpected gain: The thing I enjoyed most was that there
were students in our class who are managers or Chairmen of companies of foods
industries; they always brought surprise for us in classes! 😁
E.g.5.I told myself I must use what I’ve learned, and, to use the [terms] at least, and use them for guiding me finding out solutions or answers: some professional knowledge is difficult to understand or remember, I tried my best to realize the fundamental concept, noun and use them for work to help others to understand more of what I’m saying. 「Is EMBA study helpful to you?!」 There
was a business owner, Mr. W, asking me this question in a work interview, I've already graduated then. Mr. W completed and graduated from the EMBA of a university in
Taiwan, it is the one with the highest academic reputation in our country, however, Mr. W told
me directly with a slow headshaking: “ I don’t think it is useful!” , it seemed
something unpleasant happened to him and it was not easy to share the detail. I’ve
never studied there, all I can do was to share my own study experience and
opinion.
2. I also want to lift the competitiveness in my educational background
listed in resume and in career.
My work result was
recognized by my boss, then I was able to expand my work scope in concurring
managing HR work function in the company I worked for; in its talents
recruiting works, I had the opportunity to access lots of resume in talents
market and knew the hiring requirements of other companies, at that moment, I
noticed that talents of [Master ]
educational degree has become more popular than before, besides, my boss encouraged
us to study more and read more, I had an idea of obtaining the advanced study
and to get a Master diploma accordingly.
3. Choices, frustration, I don’t know; thank you, NCKU.
There are many ways to get a master degree;
regarding tuition and other related disbursement, I paid by myself, at the
moment I was preparing for the admission exams, in the company I worked for, there was no subsidy
program as the staffs' benefit for employees' acquiring advanced study. It was a coincidence that after my graduation, I joined another company, there
was a complete study premium benefit for employees, I realized that was the universe
wanted me to pay for my own study 😆!
I come from a general family, as general as it is, the economic level is also general. The tuitions and related expense was big to me, I took it as a kind of investment to myself, however, I set no expected rate of return on it because…it’s just like going to a bookstore to spend $$$ to buy a book, would you define how much you must get in return after you complete reading this book?! Is it weird!? 😒
[In my prediction,
the tuition will be higher and higher, my goal was to get the master degree and
related knowledge; I look back now and feel fortunately I’ve done it and
completed it already, otherwise, I would feel regret of not doing it! ]👈 This idea is for your reference for your decision making.
Below lists the
way I chose which school to study, including my personal preference, what’s
yours?!
(1) I don’t want to take
credit classes because there is no graduation certificate after completing the study.
(2) I want to maintain
my status as an office worker, I set my goal as to study the “high-level”
management courses in order to match the schools' enrollment requirement in working years for their assessing
work experience, thus, I planned to attend EMBA (executive MBA) program rather
than AMBA’s( advanced MBA) .
(3)[Major study field]+[things to consider] , I wanted to
have overall knowledge of business
management + focusing on marketing +also considering its nationality
and environment in the education: it was a pity, at that moment, my Alma Mater, #FCU ,
the program they were offering was not the scope I wanted then, and, some people recommended my going to EMBA of some
branch schools in Taiwan setup by schools of other countries, I finally didn’t
consider the “ branch in Taiwan”, because, most people around me in this branch
would speak the same language as mine, it’s less “other countries” atmosphere.
(4) Competitive strength in job market, thesis defense procedures: it was just like what I’ve
said in [#JobSearch #Interview #Resume]#FreshGraduates please come in (2of3) , in job market
in Taiwan, employers side prefer to choose talents graduation from national
universities, however, in my observation, in job vacancies advertising in
online job banks, it showed the same situation, and more than that, some shew
they only consider people graduated from some specific national universities, it
was guiding me to apply to programs held by national universities’ accordingly;
in the information I gathered, there were 2 kinds of requirements to complete
the study and get graduation, to
complete a report, to build
up a thesis, I chose “to build up thesis” and its defense procedures. This reminded me of some things, when I was doing my part time job in a winter
vacation when I was a university student, I met a PHD candidate of #NCTU,
a big sister, she told me she was busy in thesis defense preparation works,
it seemed the students need to be tortured
questioned for the thesis they’ve built 👉the plum flowers need to encounter a severe cold season before it has
the scent of blossom/no pain no gain….so I chose those schools which need
thesis and its defense procedures according to this consideration. 😄😊
Frustration is a test for our
ability of adaptability of change, or, it is a learning opportunity of our
adaptability of change: I encountered below situation when I
was preparing for the admission exams, what you will do if it was you
experiencing these?!
(1) I went to the tutorial center for preparation courses and
also sought help from individual consultant who guaranteed admission or full
refund: there was a registration form of the tutorial
center, it needed me to fill up my yearly salary information, however,
I think it is not required and I don’t want to provide that information, the
owner of the center told me directly: Usually,
people who have less yearly salary don’t want to share that information. It was bad attitude, if I accept their tutorial work, I may become the same attitude as his?!
I gave up this. After that, I studied very hard under that individual
consultant’s guidance, I also got good result in his practice exam, however, I
just can’t pass those held by the universities I applied to, I felt depressed
and requested for the refund, the consultant felt big angry at giving me back
the money 👈how you will deal
with these kind of attitude issues?! It’s for your reference.
(2) I passed an
entrance exam and my background documents review of a national university,
finally, I was informed to attend their face –to- face interview; the professor
asked me, it meant -
“ If you pass this interview, and possibly, there
will be a CFO from a listed OOO company, this person will be your classmate
here, and OOO is big, this CFO has a lot of resource or experience to share;
and to compare with this, your
company is so small, what you can share?!”
This was a school entrance interview rather than an
interview for jobs for testing candidates’ reaction under pressure or for the
immediate reaction, I disagreed this kind of question, and, in the admission
guide, there was no related rule of the company size, in addition, the professor’s attitude was contemptuous,
his body language and facial expression shew he didn’t want me to pass it,
I didn’t feel comfortable, what I don’t understand was they have already know
my background in their documents
review, if my company size is small, why they informed me to pay for attending this interview?
Suddenly, there were lots of possible answers to my questions in my mind (a.)there
was no real documents review(b)I got the interview opportunity because I got an
excellent result in the exam [it’s impossible] (c)they treat us as the work
candidates, testing our reaction (d)the face, that is just how the professor looks
like 😌(e)the
interview purpose is the fees income (f)other purpose. Finally, I introduced
music copyrights knowledge and business practice, internet technology business
model that I was familiar with , these were not a general common knowledge in
the market, I also said “ if necessary, I am responsible for being the
representative for our Chairman or Executive Director of the Board for external
meeting, and there were also Chairmen or CEOs or CFOs of OOO listed companies
in these meetings, they like to know and are interested in my work
experience and professions that I would like to share”, and I took the initiative to close our
interview with my good manner and did it quickly. If you encounter this
situation, what you would like to react?!
I thank the EMBA program of NCKU study opportunity showing up in front of me at that moment: I am from Taipei City, NCKU is in Tainan, in the beginning, I was not that clear that there were courses held by NCKU in Taipei, I didn’t search for related information then. Occasionally, I found its information via a tutorial center’s website, it was introducing all [EMBA programs held in Taiwan], I applied to its admission exam with good surprise! 😃 After the application work, documents review and exam passed, I went to the interview and was impressed about my own answer for the last question the professor asked：Your English is good, why didn't you apply for our IMBA program?! =>my answer：Oh…. Sorry, I don’t know there is IMBA(I=International ) in NCKU..😆 I got the enrollment notice at the end! 😍😄😄😄
I appreciated
those unpleasant experiences with those tutorial centers and consultant, and
the taking exams experience, no
matter it was a good or not good experience, they were guiding me to gather more news and latest management
practices, [to review my own
materials for documents review] +[to
introduce how excellent I am]+[to prepare for motives explanation of my
advanced studying plan]+[ to
prepare to present in a way with highest sincerity,
self-confidence and professional
interaction attitude (because I was not that junior student anymore)].
In the overall situation, the amount I paid for the tutorial or admission
consultant service fee was TWD0.-(because of refund), for the exam for NCKU
entrance, I didn’t ask for external helps but to do all the preparation work
based on what I’ve learned during previous experiences of failures, and I
followed all related formal procedures and work steps listed in the guide from
school, if there was some confusion, I contacted NCKU directly. These happened many years ago, if you are a
person who would like to go for an EMBA study, what you would like to do after
knowing my story?!
I would like to thank NCKU again, if
there were no courses in Taipei, what situation I would be now?!
4. The most difficult thing: define the goal clearly, then stick to it.
The “stick to it”
here, it means “persistent in our own goal, not to accept persuasion”; in many
kinds of situation, persuasion from others is because of their caring to us,
however, it is impossible to change my goal in this study. I said it was
difficult to me because I hesitated to say this and if I say this, I also
need to be polite 👉「my-go-gong-ah! (=don’t
say that again/in Minnam language) your persuasion won't succeed!」😊：
(1) Unless it is the rule I need to
follow, otherwise, I insist to choose something “new” or “interesting” to
learn: there were required credits including those I’ve earned when I was an university
student, such as Accounting, Statistics and Economics; in our EMBA classes,
there were also seniors of Accounting educational background who would like to persuade me to earn these 3 kinds of
credits and pay for these tuition again for speeding up my study progress that
I will be able to get the degree and graduation more earlier. I didn’t accept
this suggestion.
(2) Sometimes, there
were not enough people choosing some specific optional courses, or, they needed
more students to choose them for any reasons, in this situation, there were
always the seniors coming to me and advised
to choose those courses or activities, and again, I didn’t accept the suggestions because of my lack of studying interest in them.
(3) I followed the
defined rule or guidance of the school, I also listened to others’ advice,
however, I was not necessarily to accept their suggestion or take actions due
to my own clear defined goal
and limited budget amount.
There was another senior, a CEO, who joined this study 2 years earlier than I,
she agrees much with me and thinks the same way, and we felt happy in
exchanging idea!
(4) Because above (1)
and (2), my study progress was slow, the overall studying period was longer
than others’ (so does above that CEO person), and furthermore, the required
courses were held in our school in Tainan, I needed to take the first
high-speed rail to attend the classes in the morning and take the bus for going back to Taipei
at late night or stayed in Tainan alone, there were times I went back and forth
between Taipei and Tainan by myself, so did some other classmates. I spent 3
years to complete this learning, it was slow but no interruption, successfully
graduated; in this situation, actually, there was something unsolved: my family’s
worry about my coming home so late from Tainan, however, finally, I graduated and
reached the finish line!

Regardless the budget amount you can
control, would you like to spend more time than others to stick to your goal of
the learning you want?!
- What you would like to do if your family would worry about what you are doing for your goal?!
5. Regarding my viewpoint on "buying a degree".
My answer for this question still
goes this way: it depends on the purpose
and facts of what the
students or school aim at, and I need to know the whole picture before I
provide idea or opinion according to various kind of situation.
I’ve [heard] and been asked about “buying a degree” means a person doesn’t possess its real professional work capability, they paid all the tuition to have that diploma, however, I’m not sure what the truth is, and all I care is there is [lecturers] doing teaching knowledge or not, I choose to manage well with my own goal and choice only.
6. "What is the difference in Emily before and after the study?!"
External change is more significant than internal change:
Some things happened after I
completed and listed my EMBA degree in my resume:
(1) Superiors and colleagues in the
company I worked for, they shew their respect to me and said:” Wow! EMBA! That’s
amazing, and it is NCKU.”
(I thank their complimenting;
however, it also surprised me because I met below (2) more frequently)
(2) Work interviewers
or HR of the talent searching companies were testing my capability: “How did
you built up your thesis? Did you use quantitative or qualitative
research?! What the conclusion is?!” …”You
are finance managerial background, your thesis topic is marketing?! Did you
built it up by yourself?!”….
In the beginning, I replied: Please let me know
what your question is…you are questioning me, my professors or advisors or you
have less confidence to my school?! In later interviews….I also asked questions
and hope could “exchange related idea”
with interviewers! 😁 I did this to show I was really studying and learning knowledge!
I change my mind, these are the most obvious…：
In the very
beginning, I know that the purpose of some people attending EMBA is for their
own networking development, and I doubt the real effects and how long their
relationship would last, however, these things changed my mind though I knew
them indirectly and I didn’t verify it, either, but logically, they are workable,
below are the things and my own explanation and understanding -
(1) The purpose is to search for their
life partners: This is the most creative and
interesting thing I’ve ever heard, I also feel there is nothing bad in it. If
people are able to study together, it means, they both have passed the
objective conditions of being well reviewed their personal background, selected,
passed the interview by professors, and the rest and the result depends on
their own destiny. The school becomes match makers unintentionally; finally,
those seniors got married to each other 💕💑, I’m not sure it was their achieving
the goal or their unexpected surprise. Wishing them have good happiness
hereafter! 😍
(2) Long-term partnership formed
accidentally: there were some seniors founding up business
together, they became business partners. Accidentally, they became the best
working practice and learning spirit of EMBA. Wishing them achieve business
success!
(3) Some companies assigned professional
talents to apply to and attend their selected EMBA program and schools to get
networking or knowledge or both of them: employees of
this kind of companies would “ get better sales performance or knowledge, one
of the interests at least”, I feel this idea is innovative and get benefits on the
companies and employees both side. I respect them and this idea!
7. Advice for individuals and the companies.
(1) Education enhancement and networking
is important, however, your safety is more important, too. Do protect yourself.
(2) No matter it’s you or your company
pay for you to learn something, once you decide to start this learning journey,
I suggest you must define your purpose clearly, and invest your time toward all
those things and courses which are helpful to your achieving your purpose and
stick to it; time is fair, however, time is not fair, either, everyone has 24
hours🕗 a day, and everyone is not necessarily having the same number of days📅.
Thus, time is precious, please utilize your time well for your goal
achievement, and don’t waste it. Your achievement comes from what you’ve
invested your time!
(3) In job seeking or talents searching,
if you feel EMBA is a meaningful topic you would like to discuss in an
interview, below questions are for your reference and preparation as an interviewer or interviewee, the purpose is to understand and share the logic,
execution work capability, width and depth of view and the ability of
introspection of the candidates or the companies. Job seekers are also advised to seek for opinion sharing or expectation from the interviewers side, or,
initiate the sharing:
a.What’s the purpose
and reason you want to have the advanced study?
b. Anything, people and things, that is
valuable to share with others? Why?!
c. What did you learn from it?! Is it possible to use it? How to utilize it? Utilize for what?!
Do you think these
questions are much more valuable than this one: ” Who built your thesis”?! What’s your idea about this?!

Many years ago, smartphone in Taiwan
market, there were academic thesis research digging out these kind of
conclusions below, hence, nowadays, in some aspects of these conclusions, is
there anything could apply to the products(or services) of your companies
for your marketing decision making reference? What it would be if you use it in
your target market?! These things are for your reference:
a.
[Brand Image], [Products Quality], [Products
Functions] , to utilize these 3
factors together could result in
the best marketing outcome of increasing consumers purchase intention.
b. In products
functions, [Practicability] is more important than [Diversity].
c.
Among [more products functions],
[higher brand image] and [higher products quality] these 3 aspects, consumers would like to pay more money on [good
quality ] products; however, consumers also think that products quality
among brands are similar that has less difference.
d. a. Products [color] is influential to [consumers’ purchase intention; in the meantime, products work owners of the companies, such as procurement or product development department, they have high possibility to choose “sales safety color”(less possibility to become slow moving products), e.g. black; it means, the choice of the companies made may not be the same as what consumers want.
Some consumers value products [color] more than
products [functions].
e.
The importance of brand image is not
higher frequency of brand exposure, it is to deliver [quality commitment] to
earn trust from consumers and to bring out the effect of [ brand image is
deeply impressive ]; marketing communication needs to be easy to understand,
because, not many consumers are able to identify the difference between Android
or Win mobile system platform.
f. Consumers think smartphone is
expensive, however, they are willing to buy it because it has [differentiated
features] ; thus, it proves the way to win is not to define a lower selling
price.
g. Part of the
conclusion in the thesis(consumers opinion survey and research analysis,
experts interviews) are quite different from those decision made by smartphone
companies; then, what are the things your companies need to consider for your best
marketing decision making?!
