I would like to share a case for
your reference for creating employees’ sharing their thoughts:
It is not a negative thing to use
negative material in promoting yourself
How do you see a situation of your
employees sharing their complaints and advice when they are sharing their work
experience in your company?!
Example: There was a TV News Station
in Taiwan, in 1 of OOO’s news report, they were reporting OOO didn’t follow
some legal regulations, and they also interviewed their own manager who is
directly responsible for this regulation compliance work.
In my opinion: in that news, the
fact of their disobedience the regulation is not a forged fact, although, this
report is not a positive information about OOO, however, I found OOO’s insistence of freedom of speech in
news and reporting the truth. What’s your idea?!
The power of showing gratitude
Because this is your
companies/organizations created article, please be advised to consider adding
your employees’ [sincerely] showing their gratitude toward the company, their
manager, customers or suppliers…etc., and to
describe a fact in brief, or, you would like to show your gratitude
about employees’ advice or criticism👈Before
this article is published, in your overall work procedures of building up this
article, you will find that you are able to review your overall company
management issues and you get the opportunities to review your business
advantage, and this is also an opportunity to invite your employees to
participate in your business management.
However, in my point of view:
(1) It is not suitable
to include the situations of employees providing suggestions or ideas or not in
performance appraisals. Furthermore, I suggest the companies to encourage in
the form of rewards for employees expressing opinion.
(2) A shows
gratitude toward B, it doesn’t mean that the required respect to each other
between A and B will become unequal accordingly, or, it doesn’t mean that B is
able to ask for getting resources from A because of this situation👈unless the parties
involved have [agreed in advance] this is a kind of resources exchange.
Those agreements made in advance are
a kind of deal, any of the parties involved are allowed to reject or accept it.
B unintentionally or proactively gives A [what
A wants] without asking for anything in return, it is indeed a favor to A from
B. However, A thanks B because A is a person who is thankful and cherish having
blessings. It is not A allowing B to do
whatever B wants to A, or A allows B to decrease B's respect for A; In other words,
what if the thing B proactively gives to A is something that A doesn’t want?!
Must A thank B?!
For example: because of some
reasons, A has already expressed [in advance] that A doesn’t want to accept any
gift from B, or, A doesn’t want to receive any form of present, but B and even
C thinks it is [maybe] A is too polite, they still give A gifts. What kind of
situation you think it is?! Who will feel happy in this situation?! And, who
should be thankful or cherish the blessing?!
What’s your idea?! How do you define
[showing gratitude]?
And, how your company defines the [appropriateness]
in behavior?
Example 1: there was a President Y
showing gratitude toward his employee C, this employee feels surprised, C
thinks Y is too polite and C is just doing his own work duty, C feels lucky for
his meeting this kind of President.
Example 2: C’s manager D told C not
telling others about this thing, because, D thinks that if a person in a higher
work position showing gratitude toward another person in a lower work position,
it means, this person in a higher work level is ashamed because there is
something his staff is able to achieve but he cannot.
Example 3: there are 2 colleagues of
C, E and F, they told C
E: C, our year end work performance review work is coming, you can use it
to ask for our President promoting you to a work position higher than D.
F: I don’t agree with D or E. I agree with what C you’ve said, you was
just doing your work duty, and if you want to get a work promotion, you
need to follow our management rules and work ethics, you need to pass
D’s review first.
The President showing gratitude
means Y is thankful, it is not Y’s shameful behavior. And, if Y saying thank
you to you is a shameful behavior, what C you have done and made Y’s gratitude
is a kind of shameful thing?!
What’s your idea?!
Showing gratitude or being thankful
is expressing one’s attitude, or, we need to explain it differently based on
the status of a person who is saying it?! And then, it is the status in the
work environment, in our family, among neighborhood, in races or genders?! Does
your company treat kinds of employees [equally]?!
In this situation, does it mean a company with an attitude
of not considering people status would treat people more equally?!
Please allow me to ask you two
questions again:
(1) Does it mean Y is
a person who is not thankful if Y didn’t show gratitude toward C?!
(2) Does it mean that
if someone gives you something, and you must show your gratitude toward this
person to show you are a person who cherish being giving blessing?!
What’s your answer?
This is my idea:
(1) Y and C: C was
doing his own work duty, therefore, we cannot judge Y by Y’s overt behavior toward Cis thankful or not due to Y’s.
(2) About above
question (2), I think we need to consider the [appropriateness] of [giving]
before discussing the [showing gratitude].
I list my explanation after the
description of below examples, please refer to it. Thank you!
Example 1: employee G, in this week,
she frequently bought coffee to her colleagues, including G’s manager H and the
higher manager I.
Example 2: employ J, he is a
supervisor of a specific department in a company, he often treats everyone in
the company to a drink unexpectedly, including managers of departments and
their CEO.
There is something in common in
Example 1 and 2, there is an employee in a lower work position proactively spend their own
money to provide resources, and people passively
enjoy these resources involves employees in higher work position: in my idea,
it is not appropriate an employee in a lower work position [proactively] gives
to [higher –work- level] employees, or, It is also inappropriate for a [higher
ranking] to [ask for a treat] from a [lower ranking] employee. It is because:
at workplace, in addition to
the company's reimbursement of employees' expenses for food or entertainment,
personal expenses, from an [objective] perspective, higher-level managers
should bear a relatively high burden on expenses/although in fact this is not
necessarily the case, but higher-level managers have greater power and
opportunity to seek for approval for [resource or expense budgets, etc.] before
using them. In this situation, I think it is inappropriate a [lower ranking ]
employee [proactively spends their own money], and in this kind of situation, it
would seem inappropriate no matter the higher level managers accept it or not,
and it is difficult to them to make a choice.
In Example 1: at the 1st
time of G’s doing it, I told H and G not to do this kind of thing again,
however, G still did it for times, it is because G wants to resign, and due to
her service period is not long, all her colleagues in the department have made
many efforts in helping her doing her work, it causes G feels embarrassing of
her own resignation intention in this work period and she would like to pay in
her own money for this kind of situation….everyone didn’t know the root cause
until the end of this thing. Finally, G submitted the application form and resigned.
What do you think about G’s
intention of doing the spending money thing?!
I think G wanted to reduce her
guilt, although, it was true that she did it as her appreciation toward her
colleagues for their efforts, she only revealed the truth at the last moment,
and after being warned by her manager, she continued doing the same thing, in
her work period, who gained the benefit in this situation?! In my point of
view, in addition to the sales earned of the coffee shop, among G herself, her
colleagues and the manager, no one got benefit in this situation but the
disappointment. If you are G's colleagues or her manager, how you see G?

would like to share if you invite them to share thoughts of working in your
companies?!
It is an opportunity or a risk for
your promoting your companies?!
Do you think employees change jobs all
because of unpleasant work experience?!
Have you heard of below reasons for
changing jobs?
(1) They marry to a person
living in another location, so they need to move and have to leave jobs.
(2) They want to have
a long-period advanced study or want to obtain some kind of resources that
their current work environment is not able to offer due to business scale or
the limitation of their business nature, they are happy at their current jobs,
however, the limitation caused from the companies’ business nature is a natural
rather than an unpleasant situation.
(3) Due to employees
or their family members’ issues, they must change jobs to get more time to deal
with the situation.
(4) They want to
fulfill their dreams of building up their own business or they need to take
over their family business. The purpose of their going to work is to accumulate
work experience and/or accumulate funds for building up business.

If you want to invite resigned
employees to share comments or work experience when they were working in your
companies, and, employees of how many years since their leaving are more
suitable?!
I think it is more suitable if it is
less than 2 years, or, you make an adjustment based on the work progress of
your internal change work, the reason is : for those employees who have
resigned from the companies/organizations, all they are able to share is the
situation when they were working with you [ N ] years ago or in the management
work model you have N years ago, N=the spent time in any significant change
work or change of internal personnel. What do you think?! Please follow the
method that is most beneficial to your talent search.
